The Vatican Post Office Issues New Stamps

The Vatican Post Office will issue various stamps and postmarks in the month of June 2010. They will release two stamps of 1.40 and 1.50 € respectively to mark the occasions of the end of the Year of the Priest (June 19, 2009-June 11, 2010) and of the 150th anniversary of the death of St. Jean-Marie Vianney (1786-1859).  In addition, they will issue a 30×40 mm stamp of 0.65 € to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Caravaggio (1571-1610), which will depict the Italian artist’s painting, The Entombment of Christ. These stamps will be available beginning June 22nd.  Also, the Vatican Post Office will issue a special postmark honouring Pope Benedict XVI’s voyage to Cyprus on June 4-6, 2010.  The postmark will show the profile of the pope and the Mediterranean island with a Latin inscription.
